Operators manage a smart contract that joins and stakes on stream Sponsorships that assign their nodes to relay data for DATA tokens.
If operating a node seems too complex, you have the option to hire a third-party service to manage a Streamr node for you. This is known as Nodes as a Service.

Delegate to an Operator
If you want to earn with your DATA tokens without the hassle of running a node, consider becoming a Delegator.
Delegators are token holders who lend their DATA tokens to Node Operators instead of managing nodes themselves. By doing this, they help Node Operators increase their earnings. In return, the operators share a portion of their profits with the delegators as a reward.

To stake your DATA tokens, you must either be a Streamr node Operator or delegate to one.
Operators earn DATA tokens by having stake on stream Sponsorships.
You'll need to create an Operator smart contract pair it with your Streamr node(s), which can be run on a cloud hosted VPS, on your laptop or even on an idle Raspberry Pi.

Not at all! You can earn as a Delegator that provides passive liquidity for Operators. Delegators earn by delegating their DATA tokens to Operators that in exchange share a cut of their earnings.
